Wearing Our Tassels or Fringes

Dispelling the False Teaching that they are No

Longer a Requirement

By Obadiyah Ysrayl

Shalom, brothers and sisters.

Yah, our Mighty One, gave us a commandment in the Torah—the law or instructions in the first five books of the bible—stating that we are to wear tassels or fringes on the four corners of our garments.  This is done so that we may look upon the tassels and remember the commandments of YAH.

Numbers 15:37 - And YAH spake unto Moses, saying,

v. 38 - Speak unto the children of Israyl, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

v. 39 - And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of YAH, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a-whoring:

v. 40 - That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be SET APART unto YAH.

v. 41 - I am YAH your MIGHTY ONE, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your FATHER: I am YAH your MIGHTY ONE.

Deuteronomy 22:12 - Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

Yahoshua, the Messiyah, wore fringes.

Matthew 9:19 - And Yahoshua arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

v. 20 - And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

The word hem comes from the Greek word kraspedon which means, "a fringe or tassel" (STRONG'S #2899).

Our Messiyah kept this law.

"Thou shalt make thee fringes..." (Duet. 22:12)

Doesn't the New Covenant Do Away with This Commandment?

Some Hebrews teach that we no longer need to wear the fringes because now the commandments are in our hearts as part of the New Covenant.  That is NOT so.  Yah never abolished this law.  You will not find one scripture that says "You shall not wear your fringes because the law in now on your heart.  They misapply Jeremiyah 31 which tells us this:

Jeremiyah 31:31 - Behold, the days come, saith YAH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israyl, and with the house of Judah:

v. 32 - Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith YAH:

v. 33 - But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israyl; After those days, saith YAH, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their FATHER, and they shall be my CHILDREN.

v. 34 - And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know YAH: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith YAH: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Yah says when the new covenant takes effect all Israyl will know him and his laws will be in our hearts.  What this means is that the laws of Yah will be our nature.  It will be a part of who we are.  But Yah's laws are supposed to be on our heart and mind.  His laws are forever on the hearts of the righteous.

Deuteronomy 30:14 - But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Psalms 37:30 - The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

v. 31 - The law of his MIGHTY ONE is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide

Psalms 119:11 - Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Proverbs 7:2 - Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

v. 3 - Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

Isaiyah 51:7 - Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

Job 22:22 - Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

Yah's law is upon our hearts now and the commandment of wearing the fringes still remain.  You cannot use Jeremiyah 31 as an excuse to be disobedient to Yah.  Our fringes should be worn on our garments.

REMEMBER, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THIS IS A COMMANDMENT FROM YAH.  So wear them with the pride of YAH and let them dangle and blow in the wind.
